G is for God

ABC Wednesday

God or Allah or whatever …. God is created by humans. Don’t say anything else because it is not true!

Of cours mankind have to believe in something. And of course we must make sure to ourself what is good and what is bad and choose our own way. I believe that Jesus once was and that he was a wise kind of philosopher. He wanted everyone to search and find  the generous and kind way of everyone’s living towards each other. Like Jesus appeares in The Gospel of Thomas. It is up to everyone!

I truely think God makes a lot of problems in our world! God take far to much space and place in our world and daily life. Some people even think they can kill in their God’s name. If there was/is a God I think he is very harmed, sad and angry about people’s behaviour.

What one believe is private! Think about all bad behaviour made in the name of religion! Like clergy abuse of children …..

The photo is from Christmas and the St Stefan Cathedral in Budapest.

I went to Sunday school as child and as child I often thought about the false words said in church and behaviour in real life so I left church as grown up. I learned what is good and what is bad.

I am proud to be a free thinker. And I hope it is OK in everyone’s world.

I understand I am thought provocative and I do very much appreciate all your thoughts given here!
Free speach, respect and Human Rights are the most important.
Thanks to you all!

I choose to disagree with you. God is a God of love. He does not cause the badness we see in the world. A lot of the badness in the world is brought on my Man's own selfishness and greed. The Bible says the world is in the power of the Wicked One, and that would be Satan the Devil. I also am a free thinker, and that is my thinking also, I hope it is OK with you too.

It is a subject that will be and has been debated and discussed for more years than any of us have seen and there are no answers that everyone can or will agree on. In my opinion, God isn't the problem -- it's people and how they choose to define God that creates the problems. But whatever, the decision/choice is ours to make so we have to assume responsibility for the outcome. Thought provoking post for the G Day, Birgitta! Enjoy your week!

I do not wish to offend you by disagreeing with you. I believe that God is love, love is God. People are given free will, and if they choose to do bad things then God/love cannot be blamed.

Very thought provoking post. I agree with a lot of what you said. It's sad how much harm through history and in current times has been done in the name of religion. I believe in the possibility of a higher power but I think human efforts at naming her too often fall short. I am a clergyman's daughter (Episcopalian) and I respect the work my father did but my faith is too broad for any one religion.

Certainly, even if God created us, we tend to also create God, putting our own tendencies on God.

Brave post, I must say.

I agree with Carver, it's a very thought provoking post. It's interesting to read the different points of view.

to believe in God I think is not the problem, the belief that there is an omnipresent faculty watching over us is quite agreeable. However when belief changes to war for that God, then we are not just making the world a harsh and unliveable place, but also undermining our own belief..!

I agree with you. I came to the conclusion that we make our own Gods fairly early. I respect people who believe differently, as long as we can coexist in peace.
You may want to read Small Gods by Terry Pratchett, a funny and at the same time very thoughtful book on gods and how men shape them.

I agree with Roger that this is a very brave post, Birgitta. Feelings are very strong on all sides of this topic.

Having said that, I find it impossible to believe that a "God Of Love" would encourage anyone to go to war.

Brave of you, and well said! I agree with you. Though, unlike you, I've never in my life been a believer. Well, a litlle child is nothing when it comes to religion, really, but I never went to Sunday school and I have never belonged to any church. But I know what is wrong or bad, as well as anybody else.

I think it interesting that you say Jesus was a wise man. Well, He said he was the Son of God, Savior of the world, even said he WAS God... So He's either what he said or a liar.. A wise man doesn't lie. I'm a free thinker to, and choose to believe Him.

I love to read what other's think and why. So must say I enjoyed your read and your perspective.

Wanda, I don't think that is Jesus' words - it is somebody's construktion and interpretation.
Jesus was far to wise to express himself in that kind of words.
Who's interpretation do you refer to?

Nicely stated, Birgitta. I sometimes wonder if religion (any religion) was created as just another tool by greedy persons to divide and conquer.
